Annie's Ramblings

When I'm a tourist, I'm usually not attracted to the great historical monuments and such which are supposed to be the highlight of a city or a town. I like to observe the people, eat the food, shop, walk around, and do everything without a tour guide. tour guides make me exceedingly angry, because I really don't want to know about the wife who died tragically and the husband who started communing with her spirit and in the garden and the brother who shot the other brother and all the other stuff that tour guides so generously tell you. I just want to see everything and experience it for myself, not have it analyzed in a pamphlet complete with color pictures. Being a tourist is fun because you get to step back from life and take a break from all the stress that normally plauges you, but there are certain aspectse of it that I do not enjoy. I do not enjoy being viewed as an outsider at any time, (unless there are people with whose behavior I do not wish to associate) and as a tourist, one constantly feels rather lost and forlorn, outside looking in or something. it's like in Europe where they play 'spot the American' and you can tell be the persons behavior that they are an outsider (well americans do tend to be slightly more flamboyant than Europeans, so this could have something to do with it.) but anywayz. tourists coming to where I live don't really bother me unless they're walking around taking pictures of everything in sight and...i don't know. that can get annoying. but in general, its kind of cool to have someone else like what you hate
